The largest study to date examining medical cannabis and cancer suggests the plant may not only ease symptoms but also potentially alter the course of the disease. Published in Frontiers in Oncology, the analysis reviewed a wide range of existing research, including lab and observational studies.

The lead author said the goal was to build consensus around cannabis's therapeutic potential. He noted that regulatory barriers have long made clinical trials difficult.

Despite those challenges, the study drew from a robust collection of data, including preclinical research showing cannabis’s effects on tumors in animals and cell cultures. The need for more clinical research was emphasized by experts, who also called the existing evidence "overwhelming" in support of further exploration.
