CELEBRITY Cannes film festival

At the Cannes Film Festival, Italian actor and film director Asia Argento took to the stage to give an empowering speech about how she overcame her alleged sexual assault by Harvey Weinstein. Argento was on stage next to director Ava DuVernay while she delivered the message.

Following the event, Argento took to Twitter to say that Spike Lee was the only person at Cannes to congratulate her for her speech. She wrote, "I am definitely feeling it more from you all here than I did last night. After my speech, the only person who came up to me, congratulated and spoke kind words to me was Spike Lee."

One user took to Twitter to ask, "What was Ava's response afterwards? I mean, she was stood right next to you."

To which Argento said, "No response."

DuVernay then followed up by tweeting a photo of her and Argento right after the speech, saying, "My response was to put my arm around you and say “well-done.” You looked me in my eyes and said “thank you.” It was a warm exchange. I totally understand if you don’t remember the details as it was a big moment and there was a lot of emotion. For the record again, well done. xo"

Argento then responded to DuVernay, saying, "Thank you, in that moment I was in shock."

In the most graceful way, DuVernay cleared the air regarding her positive response to Argento at the Cannes Film Festival.
