Kylie Jenner caused quite the uproar when she showed up to the Schiaparelli show during Paris Fashion Week on January 23 wearing a strapless black velvet gown with an eerily lifelike lion head attached—a look from the new collection that would debut on the runway soon after. In her Instagram post, Jenner was careful to clarify that that it was a "faux art creation constructed by hand using manmade materials," but viewers weren't happy with the disturbing imagery, fake or not, criticizing it for re-glamorizing "wildlife accessories."

But critics waiting for PETA to chime in were sorely disappointed, as the animal rights organization called the animal heads “fabulously innovative.” In a statement shared by Page Six, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said that the "looks celebrate the beauty of wild animals and may be a statement against trophy hunting, in which lions and wolves are torn apart to satisfy human egotism." She added, “We encourage everyone to stick with 100% cruelty-free designs that showcase human ingenuity and prevent animal suffering,” further urging Jenner and to “extend this creativity to exclude sheep shorn bloody for wool and silkworms boiled alive in their cocoons.”

Kanye "Ye" West -

Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, wore a black t-shirt emblazoned with the phrase “White Lives Matter” on the back in stark white print while debuting his Yeezy Season 9 collection during a surprise Paris Fashion Week show on October 3. The choice was obviously controversial and many people online expressed pain that the rapper-turned-designer was so carelessly (and without explanation) touting the racist phrase, which was widely adopted by neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups as well as Trump supporters in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, as Billboard reported. 

Ye has had varying thoughts on racism in America over his career, and he's miles away now from his comment in 2005 that George Bush "doesn't care about Black people," what with his 2018 appearance on TMZ Live when he called slavery a "choice," and wearing a MAGA hat to visit Donald Trump. Joining Ye in a matching "White Lives Matter" shirt at his show was controversial conservative figure Candace Owens.
