While it's difficult to accurately estimate the number of homeless people worldwide, the World Economic Forum estimates that approximately 150 million people were homeless in 2021, roughly 2% of the world's population. And that number is on the rise. Rising rents and a decline in affordable housing are contributing factors to the rise in homelessness. This gallery showcases the 30 cities with the highest estimated homeless populations, based on the latest data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and Yahoo! News. To compile this ranking, we looked at the largest cities in each country as a representative example of homelessness estimates, using the most recent available figures.
