This November 20, Meta announced that it will block access to Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, its suite of social media platforms, for Australian users under the age of 16 by December 10. The move comes as the company is working to comply with Australia's newly introduced nationwide ban on social media for teenagers.

The company has started notifying users aged between 13 and 15 that their accounts would soon be closed. Meta says it will begin deactivating these accounts and blocking sign-ups from new users under 16 from December 4 onwards.

Indeed, social media has a major influence on how teenagers interact with the world around them. For many teens, platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat provide a space to connect with friends, share their creativity, and stay updated on trends.

However, while some teens may find it empowering and uplifting, others may experience anxiety, low self-esteem, or social pressure. Growing concerns over the impact of social media on teenagers is prompting some countries like Australia to implement restrictions for young people.
