St James's Palace is located in the City of Westminster in London. It's the most senior royal palace in Britain. It has housed kings and queens since it was built by Henry VIII in the 1530s. In 1810, it was home to the Duke of Cumberland.
One night, he called out for help and his servants found him in bed covered in wounds, his bloody sword lying on the ground. The Duke called for his valet, Joseph Sellis, but Sellis was found in his room with his throat cut.
There are rumors that Sellis attempted to kill the Duke and then killed himself in regret. Others say that the Duke (pictured) killed Sellis and his own wounds were defensive. Regardless, the ghost of John Sellis is said to still walk the halls of St James's.
Kensington has been a royal residence since the 17th century, and has reportedly amassed many resident spirits in that time. They are said to include Queen Victoria's aunt Princess Sophia, and Queen Mary II.
King George II is also said to haunt the palace. He died waiting for news from his troops during the Seven Year War. His last words were "Why don’t they come?" It's said that he still waits to this day.
King Edward VII's (pictured) private secretary, Major John Gwynne, is also said to haunt the palace. He shot himself in the royal home after divorcing his wife.
These include many famous royals like King Henry VIII and King George III. It's also said that a young grenadier soldier shot himself on the Long Walk and his apparition is still seen there.
Rumors say that the Queen Mother, who passed away in 2002, is still seen walking in the library. The sound of her heels on the floorboards can reportedly be heard before she appears.
Balmoral Castle is a royal residence in Scotland where the royal family often spends their summers.
Balmoral's most famous ghost is that of John Brown, whose kilted figure is allegedly still seen at Balmoral. Brown was the servant and friend of Queen Victoria. There are rumors that the two even had an affair, but the claims are unsubstantiated.
Hampton Court Palace in London is said to be home to many spirits, including several of King Henry VIII's wives.
Jane Seymour, Henry's third wife, died at the palace just after giving birth to a son. Her pale sickly figure can supposedly be seen walking up the Silverstick Stairs, which leads to the room where she died.
Henry's fifth wife, Katherine Howard, was beheaded for adultery at the age of 19. Her ghost is said to relive the moment she was arrested at the palace and runs down the corridors screaming for mercy.
Anmer Hall is now the country home of Prince William and Kate Middleton. In the past, it was the home of Henry Walpole, and there are rumors that he still lives there today.
Walpole was tortured and prosecuted for his Catholicism in the 16th century. He was sentenced to death when he refused to swear an oath to the Church of England. Although he was hung, drawn, and quartered at the Tower of London, his ghost is said to have returned home to Anmer Hall.
Sandringham has a jolly reputation as the location where the royal family celebrates Christmas, but there are many disturbing tales connected with the old house.
Sandringham House also has a reputation for poltergeist activities. Guests report Christmas cards flying around, blankets being pulled off beds, and clock hands spinning around!
Holyroodhouse has been a residence of the royals since 1369. It's best known as the scene of David Lizzio's murder in 1566.
David Lizzio is said to have been the lover of Mary Queen of Scots. Her husband found out and ordered Lizzio be killed in Mary's dining room while she watched. It's said that the blood stains reappear on the floor no matter how many times they're cleaned.
Frogmore Cottage became the home of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry before they stepped down from their royal duties. The cozy cottage may not have provided the peace and tranquillity they were looking for!
It sits opposite the Royal Mausoleum and St George's Chapel, which hold the remains of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and as many as 10 British kings. The area is said to be a hotbed of spirit activity.
