'Pretty Little Liars' star Lucy Hale took to Instagram on February 14, 2023, to share that she was celebrating an alternative kind of Valentine's Day that focused on self-love. The 33-year-old actress shared a photo of a festive cake with "1 year!" written in icing. In the caption, she explained that she was celebrating because she had recently reached the milestone of being sober for one year, and described it as "the greatest I've ever done." Hale didn't go into details about her reasons for choosing sobriety, but wrote, "While this journey has mostly been private, I felt compelled tonight to let anyone who is struggling know that you are not alone and you are loved."

On July 18, 2022, she shared that she was celebrating one year of sobriety - her first 365-day streak without a single drink. She posted the update on Instagram along with a few snaps from her family vacation with her husband, John Legend, and her two young children, Luna and Miles. "Not a drop of alcohol in 365 days! I miss feeling loopy and carefree sometimes, but to be honest toward the end, it didn’t give that fun feeling anymore anyhow. I drank to end crazy anxiety that later mostly went away when I - get this - quit drinking! sigh. anyhow I feel really good. sometimes I get really frustrated looking back on days I should remember way better than I do because of alcohol."
In 2021, Patricia Heaton revealed that she was three years sober after years of disordered drinking. She opened up about her past problems with alcohol and shared one of the embarrassing incidents that made her realize she had a problem. Heaton recalled attending a dinner party at one of her son's homes, with some of her other sons and their friends in attendance. She was enjoying herself and frequently topping up her glass of red wine but believed she was relatively sober. She only realized how drunk she was when she tried to say the word "tradition" and was completely incapable of pronouncing it, even after multiple attempts. One of her sons said, "Oh, great, Mom. You can't even talk."
Heaton still remembers the deep shame she felt, but also her confusion about how she had gotten to that point: "I feel fine. What is happening in my brain? What is the alcohol doing to my brain where the synapses are misfiring to the point where I can't say this word?" That was the point that she decided she needed to make a change and started her journey to sobriety.
Megan Fox once opened up about the night that led her to quit drinking. At the 2009 Golden Globes, Fox sat down at table with other celebs like Blake Lively and the Jonas Brothers. The table was laden with champagne bottles, and Fox said she drank multiple glasses and got more than a bit tipsy. When she later appeared on the red carpet for interviews, she made a variety of comments and jokes that must have gotten her in trouble with her publicist! "I was belligerent and said a bunch of s--t I shouldn't have said," Fox recalled. She was only 22 years old at the time, but this incident led Fox to stop drinking alcohol for good.
