Personality is unique to each and every one of us. We all have different personality traits, and many of these can be revealed by the way we do things. Yes, the way we roll our toilet paper roll or the way we walk can say a lot about our personalities.

In this gallery, we look at some of the things we do that are usually signs of certain personality traits. Click on to find out how they apply to you.

▲

Footwear choice is also a good indicator of personality. In a study, volunteers were asked to evaluate several people, just by looking at pictures of their shoes, and the responses were remarkably accurate (the people who wore the shoes completed a personality test).

▲

Things such as age and income were identified by those who looked at the photos.

▲

So, what does this mean? People who wear more comfortable footwear tend to be more agreeable, whereas those who preferred wearing uncomfortable shoes seemed to be more calm.

▲

Those who are a bit more aggressive seem to prefer ankle boots, and those with new and well-maintained shoes seem to be a bit more anxious or have a more clingy personality.

▲

The way you shake another person’s hand does reveal a lot about you, and indeed has an impact on first impressions and what people think about you. A study found that those with firmer handshakes were generally more emotionally positive, confident, expressive, and extroverted.

▲

As for those with a looser handshake, they tended to be less confident, more shy, neurotic, and more socially anxious than those with a firmer handshake.

▲

Yes, the way you hang a toilet paper roll does say something about your personality. According to a survey conducted by therapist Gilda Carle, whether you do so in an overhand or underhand position indicates how assertive you are.

▲

According to the survey, those who used the overhand method were more dominant, while those who preferred the underhand method tended to be more submissive.

▲

Some people seem to take the direction of their toilet paper roll very seriously, having admitted to changing its position regardless of where they are.

▲

Email etiquette is yet another thing that can say a lot about your personality. Do you tend to use the words “I,” “me,” and “mine” a lot? This is usually a sign that you have some narcissistic traits.

▲

Are you the type of person who meticulously writes an email and reviews it countless times to be sure it’s well written and free of typos? This is a sign of a person’s conscientiousness, perfectionism, and maybe even obsessiveness. Perhaps surprisingly, those who tend to write long emails signal thoroughness and energy, but also a bit of neediness.

▲

Highly logical and productive people tend to walk their weight slightly forward and a quick stride. Those who walk with their shoulders back, chest forward, and head held high are usually seen as more charismatic and fun, with good social skills.

▲

People who walk neutrally, with their weight over their legs (not forward or back), are usually more into people than tasks. Introverted people tend to walk lightly and look down at the floor.

▲

Many of us have body-focused repetitive behaviors, aka nervous ticks. According to a study, if you tend to tug your hair or bite your nails to soothe boredom or deal with irritation or dissatisfaction, then you might be a bit of a perfectionist.

▲

How accurate is timeliness in revealing your personality? Well, punctual people tend to be more conscientious and agreeable.

▲

Those who tend to arrive early may score higher in neuroticism. And lastly, those who tend to be late all the time are usually just laid-back people.

▲

Do you like to take your time and eat slowly? This is usually a sign that you know how to enjoy life, but also that you like to be in control.

▲

If you tend to eat fast, on the other hand, you’re not only more impatient, but you might also be more ambitious.

▲

Differences are also found in those who like to try new foods (adventurous, risk-takers) and picky eaters (anxious, neurotic). Do you like to separate all the foods on your plate? Then this is a sign of cautiousness, and you’re also pretty detail-oriented in general.

▲

Do you meticulously analyze all the ingredients in the label before making a decision to buy a product? This means you’re detail-oriented and score high on measures of cognitive reflection. Other consumers will do just fine with more general information about a product.

▲

Yes, your selfie style also says something about you. According to a 2015 study conducted by Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, those who tended to take selfies from below were more agreeable.

▲

The study also found that those who score higher on conscientiousness were less likely to show a private space in the background of their photos.

▲

If you tend to take selfies with a positive facial expression (e.g. smiling), then you’re likely more open to new experiences. The duck face types seem to have a more neurotic personality.

▲

Handwriting analysis, or graphology, is nothing new, but it still is a great indicator of one’s personality traits. Do you use large letters? You’re probably more people-oriented and like attention. On the other hand, people with small handwriting tend to do well in acute concentration, and are overall more introverted.

▲

Do your letters slant toward the right? Then you’re likely more impulsive and friendly. A left slant is usually a sign that you’re more individualistic and reserved. As for those with no slant, they are usually logical and pragmatic people.

▲

How much pressure do you apply while you write? Those who apply heavy pressure tend to be more reactive and feel things more intensely. On the other hand, those who write lightly demonstrate easiness and less emotional involvement.

▲

Do you wear a purse on the crook of your arm? People who do this usually give a lot of importance to social status.

▲

Carrying the bag in the front, with the strap across your body, usually means you place more importance on protection and accessibility. Those who wear the bag behind seem to be more calm overall.

▲

If you’re more of a backpack person, then surely you place great emphasis on your independence. As for those who carry their bags in their hands, they tend to be well-organized and assertive.
