Soulja Boy then deleted the post and claimed that the fake bills were for a music video and assured followers that he knew they weren't real.

This U.S. representative had a number of lies investigated by prosecutors. These included details about his heritage, education, employment history, and even the nature of his mother's death (he first said she died during the 9/11 attacks, but later tweeted that she died of cancer).

▲

In 2016, Bella Thorne sparked outrage when she posted a selfie wearing a fur coat on Instagram. Thorne then said that the coat was made of faux fur.

▲

Back in 2014, the rapper posted a picture of (obviously) fake US$100 bills on Instagram.

The Eastern District of New York filed a 13-count indictment against the Congressman in May 2023 and he is reportedly being investigated by the Nassau County district attorney and the New York State Attorney General’s office.

▲

However, some followers were not convinced, so they looked it up online and found the coat on the Harrods website. According to the description, it was made of "genuine rabbit and arctic fox fur from China."

▲

In May 2017, the rapper posted a picture of a private jet to his Instagram. Bow Wow was flying to New York City to do a press run for 'Growing Up Hip Hop.'

▲

Back in 2016, Hillary Clinton beat out Donald Trump in the popular vote. But Trump said that he had won it, claiming that there had been illegal voting for Clinton. "I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally," he said.

▲

In 2018, the actress and comedian lost her job at ABC after posting racist tweets about Democrat Valerie Jarrett.

▲

Except, the photo wasn't taken on a private jet. A fellow passenger in Bow Wow's commercial flight to NYC took a picture of him and tweeted it.

▲

Of course, evidence of voter fraud was never found and Trump was called out by numerous people and all over social media. Sadly, this was not the end of Donald Trump's denial claims.

▲

Barr tried to blame it on the fact that she was taking the anti-insomnia drug Ambien. The makers of Ambien, Sanofi, then tweeted: "Racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication."

▲

Kris Jenner released a cookbook back in 2014. Then celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey showed up and took a photo with Jenner to help promote the book. The photo was posted on Instagram, and the lie was a visual one.

▲

The member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan was however called out for reposting one of her Instagram pics from 2013. The photo in question showed a bowl of cereal with milk, and it was quite clearly hers.

▲

It turns out, her love for Microsoft was false advertisement. After all, Oprah sent the tweet from an Apple product. This was obvious, as the tag "via Twitter for iPad" was visible for everyone to see.

▲

In 2012, Oprah posted a tweet endorsing Microsoft Surface, which read "love that SURFACE!" Oprah added that she had already bought twelve of them for Christmas gifts.

▲

In 2018, Kylie Jenner tweeted "last night i had cereal with milk for the first time. life changing."

▲

Jenner heavily photoshopped both herself and Gordon Ramsey. Both their faces were so smooth that they looked like wax figures.

▲

Malone's words came as a surprise for Hillsong. "I do not know Post Malone and I have no idea why he would say reckless things about our church, which he has never visited. Justin has not given our church 10 million dollars," refuted the pastor of the controversial church.

▲

Back in 2017, the rapper said in an interview that his friend, Justin Bieber, had given US$10 million to his church, Hillsong.

▲

"New jet for Christmas, and she's beautiful..." This was how the selfie Justin Bieber posted on Instagram on Christmas Day 2014 was captioned.

▲

Back in 2015, Khloé Kardashian posted a picture on Instagram where she proudly showed three pies she claimed to have baked from scratch for Thanksgiving.

▲

But it turns out, Bieber didn't buy himself a new private jet for Christmas. TMZ looked into it and found out that the singer had only rented the jet, so it was just a "really expensive uber."

▲

Back in 2016, the Princess of Pop posted a mouthwatering picture of corn on Instagram with the caption, "It's honestly too good to be true mmmm."

▲

It turns out, it was. One of her followers wasn't convinced, so following a Google search for "grilled Mexican corn," it transpired that Spears, or whoever was managing her Instagram then, actually stole the picture from recipe100.com.

▲

It turns out, the pies had been supplied by the Sweet Lady Jane bakery in LA. TMZ figured out that Khloé Kardashian had staged the whole thing and made their discovery public.

▲

But fans quickly noticed that the image was photoshopped. Lohan was then called out for attempting to alter her waistline.

▲

That might have been true, but considering Kim K's daughter North was just a toddler back then, fans were not convinced.

▲

Back in 2015, Kim Kardashian posted a picture on Instagram with the caption "North posted this while playing games on my phone. Not sure why or how she chose it but I’m not complaining! LOL I deleted it so now reposting it myself!"

▲

And then she blamed it on a hacker. "By the way my Twitter got hacked somebody is threatening to release new music I've worked really hard on," posted Ora.

▲

In 2015, the actress posted a selfie to Twitter captioned "Just received my waist trainer from @nowaistclique!! #LovingIt #majorsituation."

▲

The British singer tweeted the following back in 2014: "Dropping my new song monday if this gets 100,000 retweets." Rita Ora didn't quite get the retweets she expected, so she deleted the tweet.

▲

Back in 2014, the rapper posted a beautiful photo of an eclipse on Instagram with the hashtag #diddyView.

▲

Except, this wasn't Diddy's view. The rapper was called out by Los Angeles photographer Cole Younger, who was the actual author of the photo.

We all lie from time to time, but even those of us who do so on social media, are not under the same scrutiny that celebs are. When a famous person posts a dubious picture on Instagram, or posts something that might ruffle someone's feathers, they have millions of people judging their actions. This, of course, makes lying a lot more difficult!

In this gallery, you'll find a list of celebrities who have been caught lying on social media. Click on to find out who they are.
