When George Lucas sat down to write 'Star Wars,' the filmmaker had no idea he was creating what would become one of the most successful movie franchises in cinema history. Similarly, his storyline for 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' (1981) created one of the most famous action heroes ever to grace the silver screen—Indiana Jones.

Director, producer, screenwriter... George Lucas is one of the greatest visionaries of our time. He has profoundly reshaped the film industry by pioneering the modern blockbuster model and has revolutionized cinematic visual effects through the establishment of his company Industrial Light & Magic.

Throughout his career, Lucas has maintained his independence from Hollywood studios, famously retaining merchandising rights and wielding creative control over the projects he's been involved in.
