Audie Murphy remains the most decorated soldier in US military history. During the Second World War, he was awarded the highest and most prestigious honors the United States can bestow upon a combatant, including a Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor.

Returning to America as a war hero, Murphy found further fame in Hollywood, appearing in no less than 40 feature films throughout the 1940s, '50s, and '60s. But behind the scenes was a man deeply troubled by his wartime experiences and overwhelmed by combat fatigue, which would haunt him for the rest of his life.
