Yolanda Hadid of 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' fame, who is probably the celebrity most vocal about Lyme disease, returned to social media following a long social media detox to share an update on her condition. The mother of Bella, Gigi and Anwar posted a photo of herself sitting in the sun and wrote, "Coming back from a 9 month social media hiatus, a time to reevaluate my life."
She began by addressing the death of her mother, Ans van den Herik, who passed away in August 2019. "After the loss of my mother i really struggled with depression followed by a lyme relapse….the emotional stress and grief strongly effected [sic] my immune system." Hadid added that her phone addiction only made things worse as it "started to take so much time away from being present in my life." She said that the detox was "a wonderful reset" that helped her "break the habit of picking up my phone 50 times a day," and now she's "Learning to focus on myself, my health journey and being present in this moment of my life."
Lyme disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection that wages a silent but potentially deadly war on your body. It starts with flu-like symptoms but can quickly morph into serious damage to the nervous system, heart, and joints if left untreated.
And Hadid is joined by a surprising number of other stars who've experienced it—check out this gallery to see which other celebs also have Lyme disease.
