Bella Hadid shares update on her treatment for severe Lyme disease side effects

Lyme disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection that wages a silent but potentially deadly war on your body. It starts with flu-like symptoms but can quickly morph into serious damage to the nervous system, heart, and joints if left untreated.
Supermodel Bella Hadid has suffered from chronic Lyme disease since 2012. The 26-year-old has been open about her struggles with the illness in the past, and her health has been deteriorating in 2023. The fashion week fixture was noticeably absent from the Paris runways at the end of June and it was revealed that she was taking time off work to receive intensive daily treatment for Lyme.
On August 6, she shared a health update on Instagram. "Living in this state, worsening with time and work while trying to make myself, my family and the people who support me, proud, had taken a toll on me in ways I can’t really explain," she wrote. While she described the experience as "painful," she also said that "the outcome was the most enlightening experience of my life."
"I have so much gratitude for and perspective on life , this 100+ days of Lyme, chronic disease , co infection treatment, almost 15 years of invisible suffering, was all worth it if I’m able to, God willing, have a lifetime of spreading love from a full cup, and being able to truly be myself, For the first time ever." Hadid also thanked her medical team and her mom, Yolanda Hadid, for saving all of her medical records from the time she first start exhibiting symptoms as a teen, and for believing her and protecting her throughout her illness.
