Amanda Seyfried
- Amanda Seyfried opened up to People about the baby boy she welcomed in 2020 with husband Thomas Sadoski. “I had something that went wrong with my second birth. The baby was okay but it was tricky and it was painful and it didn’t have to happen, and it did so it added an extra level of trauma,” she said, explaining that she'd had issues with her spine. The actress was also naturally concerned about the mental effects. “I was terrified of suffering from postpartum depression. I ended up doing a lot of CBT therapy before I had my first kid and then I was really lucky, I didn’t suffer from any depression and I felt like I had won in some way,” she said. “It was hard, and it was so hard, the struggle, but it wasn’t anything I didn’t think I could handle. And with my second kid, that’s partly because I was on my medication and I never got off of it.”

The actress explained that she gave birth to her daughter Everly in London while Tatum was filming in the area, and then she herself had to travel with her then-newborn child in order to continue working. She said that just six weeks after giving birth she went back to work on 'Witches of East End,' while Tatum "wasn't available" to be with them due to his own work obligations. "And I had a lot of postpartum anxiety I would say," she continued. "It was like, I just never stopped. You know, you're up a couple times in the night and then you're working all day. I was breastfeeding, I was pumping, I was without a partner, I mean it was just craziness."

Like many women, she started to question her abilities: “I just felt this rush of like, ‘I’m not good enough for him. I don’t know how to be his mom. I know how to feed him, but beyond that, am I suited for this?'” Moore is trying to manage her evolving identity and stay connected to the person she is outside of being a mom.

Britney Spears opens up about perinatal depression while announcing third pregnancy

Postpartum depression is a form of depression that occurs in women after they give birth, regardless of social class, color, or beliefs. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), close to 15% of women suffer from this condition, but it is treatable. Symptoms vary, but can include extreme sadness, low energy, anxiety, changes in sleeping or eating patterns, crying episodes, and irritability.
Britney Spears recently announced that she's expecting a child with her "husband" Sam Asghari, and in her Instagram post she took a moment among the bliss to acknowledge the difficulty. She noted that she "obviously won’t be going out as much due to the paps getting their money shot of me like they unfortunately already have," perhaps referring to the times she experienced postpartum depression after the birth of both her sons when she was heavily in the public eye.
She continued, "it’s hard because when I was pregnant I had perinatal depression … I have to say it is absolutely horrible … women didn’t talk about it back then … some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her … but now women talk about it everyday … thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret." Fortunately she's going into this experience prepared and added, "This time I will be doing yoga every day !!!"
And Spears is right about women finally talking about it. Take a look at the gallery to hear other celebrity experiences of the condition.
