The rich and famous can afford to install all the latest security measures, and yet burglaries are still more common in Hollywood than you might think. It can be even harder to ensure the safety of such high-profile targets when they travel abroad, as was the case for Kim Kardashian when she went to Paris Fashion Week in 2016.
One of the masterminds behind that infamous robbery now blames Kardashian herself for the crime, pointing a finger at the way she showed off her jewelry on social media. Yunis Abbas, in his late 60s, spent nearly two years in prison for the US$10 million heist, and he said to VICE News in an interview published August 20, "Since she was throwing money away, I was there to collect it, and that was that. Guilty? No, I don’t care."
“They should be a little less showy towards people who can’t afford it,” he added of of Kardashian and other stars who flaunt their wealth online. “For some people, it’s provocative.” Abbas was one of the 12 thieves—dubbed "grandpa gangsters" since most were over 60—who were caught in connection to the crime. He's spoken about it before, and even wrote a memoir called 'I Kidnapped Kim Kardashian.'
