Lady Gaga offered a US$500,000 reward for her dogs return after her dog walker was shot and two of her French bulldogs were stolen. Now, Jennifer McBride, who returned the dogs but who also pleaded no contest to her involvement in the robbery, is suing Gaga for the reward money and other damages.
Three men and two accomplices were charged in the 2021 shooting and robbery. McBride was reportedly in a relationship with the father of Jaylin White, one of the two men who attacked the dog walker, who was sentenced to four years in prison. Jaylin's father Harold White and McBride were accused of helping Jaylin avoid arrest and were each charged with one count of accessory after the fact.
In her lawsuit, McBride says Gaga announced on social media she would offer a reward for her dogs, "no questions asked," and she believed she would receive the reward when she returned the dogs to a Los Angeles police station the next day, the suit states, as per CBS. Despite the fact that McBride pleaded no contest on a charge of receiving stolen property and was sentenced to two years of probation, she is suing Gaga for breach of contract, fraud by false promise, and fraud by misrepresentation. She alleges she suffered compensatory damages, mental anguish, pain and suffering and loss of enjoyment of life as a result of not being paid.
The lives of the rich and famous seem perfect from afar, but most people don't think about how awful it is to be a popular target for unhinged legal actions that anyone can file without the help of an attorney.
