NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. made headlines in November 2022 after news broke that he was removed from a plane by police before takeoff at Miami International Airport. Flight officials said he failed to respond to requests to buckle his seatbelt and appeared to be unconscious. "Fearing that Mr. Beckham was seriously ill, and that his condition would worsen through the expected 5 hour flight, (flight crew members) called for police and fire rescue," Miami Dade Police Officer Luis Sierra said in a statement following the incident on the morning of November 27, which added, "As they tried to wake (Beckham) to fasten his seat belt, he appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness." At the time, Beckham's attorney insisted his client was actually just asleep and that the whole situation was blown out of proportion.

Two months later, bodycam footage from the police officers involved showed a confused-looking Beckham talking to police officers, who deemed him fit to fly, but flight attendants stepped in to say, "Do you know how many times we’ve shaken him to put the seatbelt on?" According to staff, Beckham was completely unresponsive to vigorous attempts to wake him. They also told the officers that he said he had been clubbing the night before. "This is a five-hour flight, he shouldn’t be going with us like that," one attendant added. Eventually, the plane's captain got involved and it was decided that Beckham was not in a condition to fly. Beckham became frustrated and refused to leave the plane, which resulted in the entire flight having to deboard so police officers could deal with the situation and escort Beckham from the plane. He eventually complied.

Flying is stressful, even for celebrities. Even with a few million dollars and a private jet to boot, traveling by air can bring out the worst in people.

Track star Sha'Carri Richardson took to social media to share her experience being removed from an American Airlines flight over the weekend. The 22-year-old sprinter filmed much of the incident and wrote on her Instagram Story that she had complied when a flight attendant asked her to end a phone call, as per People, but the problem began when a male flight attendant allegedly threatened her. In one video Richardson says to the flight attendant, "I'm recording me, but you jumped in my video, so I caught you because you jumped in my video," then adds, "You're harassing me at this point, so I think you should stop." She defends taking a video of herself while attendants ask her to stop.

In a second video, Richardson is seen talking to other passengers about the situation before someone informs her that the captain had made the call to remove her from the flight. "Tell me if I’ll be wrong to pursue legal actions against the airline @americanair not only did the man threaten me but also an innocent bystander who simply just wanted a picture with me," she wrote in the caption.
