Sandra Bullock is opening up about the private grief she experienced while her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, battled ALS before his death in August 2023. Appearing on the 'SmartLess' podcast in an episode that will be released globally on August 24, the Oscar-winning actress recalled the “traumatic diagnosis” and said Randall asked her not to publicly discuss his illness.
“I wasn’t allowed to speak about it,” Bullock said, explaining that she honored his request while carrying the “huge weight” of his diagnosis largely in private.
Bullock said Randall’s illness was particularly isolating as their family navigated his three-year battle during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I started grieving Bryan four years before he passed,” she said, adding that he “was ill for half of our relationship.” The couple privately raised Bullock’s two children, Louis and Laila, as well as Randall’s daughter, Skylar, before his death at age 57.
