Reclusive celebs who live a private life
Frances McDormand explains the secret to her silence in a rare new interview

Being a celebrity can give you fame, fortune, and opportunity. However, for many celebs, a life in the public eye is just too much pressure. There are many celebrities who actually prefer to live private lives, becoming hermits and recluses away from the spotlight.
In a rare new interview, Frances McDormand opened up to the New York Times about why she spent a decade actively avoiding the spotlight. The two-time Oscar winner hit her stride after 1996’s ‘Fargo,’ but after she earned her first Academy Award she hired a publicist to turn down all interviews that came her way.
In this new interview, published on February 22, McDormand explained, "I made a very conscious effort not to do press and publicity for 10 years in what other people would think would be a very dangerous moment in a female actor's career, but it paid off for exactly the reasons I wanted it to." The 63-year-old added, "It gave me a mystery back to who I was, and then in the roles I performed, I could take an audience to a place where someone who sold watches or perfume and magazines couldn't."
Even more recently, with her roles in 2017’s ‘Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri’ and 2020’s ‘Nomadland,’ McDormand remains adamant about her privacy, so the next time we’ll see her might be at the Oscars.
She joins a long list of celebs who have done similar things, escaping the endless attention of their fans. Get to know these secretive celebs with the following gallery.
