Malkovich debuted on Broadway in 1984 alongside Dustin Hoffman in 'Death of a Salesman.'

On-screen debut - Many think of ‘Places in the Heart’ as Malkovich's first role. In reality, however, he first appeared in an uncredited role in 1978's 'A Wedding,' starring Carol Burnett (pictured).

Breakout role - 'Places in the Heart' (1984) was Malkovich’s breakout movie. He plays a blind lodger in the film, in which Sally Field starred as the protagonist. The role earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars.

'Dangerous Liaisons' (1988) - One of his most memorable roles was the sinister Vicomte de Valmont in the film 'Dangerous Liaisons,' alongside Glenn Close and Michelle Pfeiffer.

‘In the Line of Fire’ (1993) - Starring alongside Clint Eastwood, Malkovich plays yet another villain, this time a political assassin. He was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s first role after 'Titanic' was with Malkovich in 1998's 'Man in the Iron Mask.'

'Being John Malkovich' (1999) - Directed by Spike Jonze, this movie sees the actor playing himself, in a film where a group of actors find a secret tunnel into his mind. It was nominated for three Academy Awards.

Marriage - Malkovich was married to actress Glenne Headly from 1982 to 1988. It was his only marriage. They divorced after Malkovich supposedly got involved with Michelle Pfeiffer during the shooting of 'Dangerous Liaisons.'

'100 Years' - Malkovich starred in a movie that likely none of us will live to see. In fact, its full title is '100 Years: The Movie You Will Never See.' Upon completion, it was locked away, and will only be released in the year 2115. So far three cast members have been revealed, one being Shuya Chang (pictured) as "Hero's Girl."
