Martin Short reportedly called a friend to check on his daughter Katherine Short after not hearing from her for over 24 hours—though Katherine ultimately took her own life.
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s report, investigators wrote that after entering Katherine’s home, the friend found a note on her locked bedroom door and called 911. She was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with a suicide note.
The autopsy report also says Katherine had a prior attempt to take her own life in 2017 involving pills, and a documented history of mental illness and depression.
Short, who also lost his wife Nancy Dolman to cancer in 2010, said in a recent CBS News interview, that mental illness should be understood like any other disease.
The comedic actor has endured multiple personal tragedies throughout his life, including the deaths of his brother and both parents at a young age.
