Just thinking about losing a child is an unbearable nightmare that no one should have to go through. Sadly, however, there are many people whose worst nightmare became a reality, as is the case of these stars who lost their kids–some at a very young age, others older.
The latest parent to suffer such a loss is Sinead O'Connor. The singer mourns her 17-year-old son, who was found dead after being reported missing following his admission to a hospital in Ireland.
O'Connor announced the loss of her second youngest child on Twitter: "My beautiful son, Nevi'im Nesta Ali Shane O'Connor, the very light of my life, decided to end his earthly struggle today and is now with God," she wrote on January 7. "May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example. My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace."
A day prior, O'Connor had tweeted a plea to her son. "Shane, it's not funny any more all this going missing. You are scaring the cr*p out of me. Could you please do the right thing and present yourself at a Gardai station. If you are with Shane please call the Gardai for his safety." She later added, "Shane, your life is precious. God didn't chisel that beautiful smile on your beautiful face for nothing. My world would collapse without you. You are my heart. Please don't stop it from beating. Please don't harm yourself. Go to the Gardai and let's get you to hospital."
The singer then accused a Dublin medical center of letting her son go missing "when 7 days ago he made two severe [attempts on his life]." The hospital has not commented.
