Gayle King has revealed the painful moment she caught her former husband, William Bumpus, cheating on her with one of her close friends. Speaking on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast on May 27, the 71-year-old journalist recalled unexpectedly returning home with her children after a canceled flight and discovering the affair unfolding inside her house.
King said she found the woman “cowering behind the door” wrapped in her towel after her husband tried to stop her from entering the room. The ‘CBS Mornings’ host later called best friend Oprah Winfrey for support, while police were also sent to the house after the alarm was triggered during the incident.
Although King and Bumpus briefly attempted counseling, the couple ultimately divorced in 1993. Years later, Bumpus publicly apologized for the affair, calling it a “life altering choice.”
