In an interview with Variety published on June 10, David Harbour addressed Lily Allen's references to infidelity on her 2025 studio album 'West End Girl,' following the couple's separation earlier that year.
When discussing the matter, the 'Stranger Things' star offered some remarks about his ex-wife's artistic choices.
"It was weird," he said, before elaborating on his perspective regarding artists using personal experiences in their work. "I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that," Harbour explained.
Rather than outright denying the infidelity accusations, the 51-year-old reflected on the nature of storytelling itself. "Stories are complex," he noted. He further emphasized his respect for Allen's creative process, stating: "And that's why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn't my experience," adding that his own approach to transforming personal moments into art occurred "through acting."
On whether he would elaborate on the subject, Harbour was firm in maintaining boundaries. "I can't really say that much more," he said.
"It's my private life," he stressed. "In spite of the fact that a lot of people don't allow me a private life—I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately," he concluded. "I just won't speak about that."
The pair ended their four-year marriage in February 2025, with Allen addressing the split through her music.
