Saoirse Ronan is stepping into the world of rock ‘n’ roll. The four-time Oscar nominee will play Linda McCartney—photographer, musician, and late wife of Paul McCartney—in Sam Mendes’ upcoming four-part Beatles biopic project.

The films, which will tell the story of the Fab Four from multiple perspectives, also features Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.

Paul and Linda McCartney were one of rock music's most-loved couples. They met at the Bag O' Nails nightclub in London in May 1967, and they had instant chemistry. Paul has described her as very down to earth, which he said "helped him cope with his Beatles fame and live a normal life."

They married two years after they met in 1969, one year after they had started dating. Linda and her daughter Heather moved out to London to be with him. The couple created the band Wings together, and recorded several albums. They ended up as a successful band in the 1970s, winning two Grammys and being nominated a total four times.

However, their love story took a devastating turn in 1995 when Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer and it later moved to her liver. Despite a variety of treatments, Linda passed away at the age of 56 in 1998. She was survived by four children, Heather (whom Paul later adopted), Mary, Stella, and James.

Throughout Paul and Linda's 29-year marriage, they were an important musical duo and an inspiration for partners everywhere. From fighting legal battles to firing out hits with Wings, the couple did (almost) everything together. Check out this gallery to see a timeline of Paul and Linda's loving relationship.
