When most of us imagine ourselves at 70, it usually doesn’t involve intense work and public scrutiny, but that’s the world Meryl Streep has reigned over for years.
In fact, she's been appearing in our lives and making us cry, laugh, and gasp for over four decades, ever since her film debut in 1977.
When you ask people who the greatest actress alive is, the most common answer you’ll get is Meryl Streep. She was the reason so many younger actors embarked on their career, she has been the mark of success for many of her costars, and she is considered by both critics and the general public to be the best actress of her generation. Not to mention, she currently holds the record for the most Oscar nominations of any actor, with a whopping 21 to her name.
She’s been a true chameleon on-screen, going from heart-wrenching Holocaust survivor to cut-throat magazine editor to delusional New York heiress without skipping a beat. She has honed her craft over many years, and she’s managed to be what producers and directors long for but hardly find: an actor who can draw people to films with her name, yet who can simultaneously make you forget that you’re watching her as the film progresses.
As if her impressive resume wasn't enough, Streep has always looked impeccable doing everything from red carpet appearances to trips abroad. She hasn’t always been confident about her beauty, but she exudes a compelling quality in each of her looks, and she’s challenging the way our society puts pressure on women to look young forever. Instead, she’s making an example of how to age with pure grace, and character too.
