The internet has enabled much of the world to both consume and share at an incredible rate, sometimes completely overwhelming the websites we use. And when it comes to hilarious, scandalous, and downright ridiculous celebrity news, people’s fingers move at a superhuman speed.
The term “breaking the internet” is used when something goes even beyond viral, consuming every outlet and platform, almost instantly cementing the person or trend in history.
Billie Eilish is the most recent to send shockwaves through the internet as the typically green-haired, baggy-clothed singer posted photos of herself on the cover of British Vogue looking like a glamourous blonde pin-up in figure-hugging corsets and skirts. Her Instagram post surpassed one million likes in just six minutes, and became the fastest picture in history to achieve such a feat on the platform. Perhaps anticipating the surprise, she wrote on Instagram, "I love these pictures and I loved doing this shoot. Do whatever you want wnever you want. F— everything else."
