Saying yes to an iconic role early in your career seems like it would be a dream come true, but for many actors their deal of a lifetime turns into the reel of their lifetime, with their whole career overshadowed by one character.
Some actors have even had difficulty securing work after delivering a fantastic performance in these beloved roles. It seems backward, but if you can't disappear into a new character, you won't get too far in Hollywood.
Fortunately John Krasinski has had a fruitful and varied career, but he still can't shake his role as Jim from 'The Office,' as was clear during his guest appearance on the first 'Saturday Night Live' of 2021. During his opening monologue, the cast kept calling him Jim and asking him about Pam, until Pete Davidson explained, "I think everyone’s been stuck inside for a year watching 'The Office' nonstop."
Then, in true 'SNL' fashion, Kenan Thompson asked if Davidson was Pam, and the cast chanted until they got what they wanted: a smooch between Krasinski and Davidson.
