George Floyd's death at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis sparked a renewed fire in the Black Lives Matter movement around the world, with an emphasis placed on individual accountability and a general feeling of "enough is enough."
While some celebrities have used their platforms to properly address racial inequality, many others have really missed the mark and are paying for it. For example, the recent star-studded, anti-racism “I Take Responsibility” campaign apparently learned nothing from Gal Gadot's coronavirus ‘Imagine’ backlash—which was against empty celebrity-centered activism—and the public is again urging stars to stop putting on a show and just donate already. The same goes for various companies who’ve felt pressured to state their solidarity with the movement but who have failed their Black employees in the past.
And we're not even going to include the online influencers who, in a stunning example of just how poorly educated many are on racism, started a trend of literally putting on blackface to attempt to show solidarity with the BLM movement.
