George Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney, and their two children have been granted French citizenship, according to an official decree published in France’s government gazette issued over the weekend. The move formalizes a decision the actor had hinted at earlier, when he spoke publicly about his family’s ties to the country.
Clooney has previously cited France’s strict privacy laws as a key reason for seeking citizenship, saying they offer stronger protections for children against paparazzi intrusion. The couple has owned a property in the South of France since 2021, near the village of Brignoles.
Like Clooney, lots of celebrities have dual citizenship, either because they moved countries and applied for it, they're the children of immigrants, or for other, more specific reasons. To discover more celebrity dual citizens, click on.
