Public breastfeeding in the US was only made legal in all 50 states in 2018. Very recently, mothers in Utah or Idaho were legally required to nurse in bathrooms because it was considered indecent or immodest to do so in public. While most countries around the world don't have a specific ban on breastfeeding in public, the stigma alone is often enough to force women to hide, or give up on the idea altogether. Who better to normalize this natural act than those with the biggest public platform?
Olivia Munn gave birth to her first child in November of 2021. She shares her son Malcolm with the comedian John Mulaney. Munn took to Instagram in January to vent about the difficulties she's experienced with breastfeeding: "8 weeks in and I've taken a million vitamins, countless teas, lozenges, tinctures and worked with two lactation consultants." The actress shared that she is struggling with a low milk supply and hasn't found a solution yet. She set up a poll on her Instagram stories to see what her breastfeeding followers had to say. The options were "Y! Lactating is hard," or "Got lucky. Got milk." More than half of those who voted went for the first option.
