Barbara Palvin has opened up about her health journey, revealing that she was diagnosed with endometriosis following years of painful and irregular periods. The Hungarian model, who married actor Dylan Sprouse in 2023, revealed through an Instagram post on August 17 that she underwent surgery three months ago and has since experienced relief from her symptoms.
Palvin explained that despite regular gynecological checkups, her condition went undiagnosed for years. She highlighted that endometriosis cannot be detected through routine exams alone and requires specialist attention.
According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, often causing severe pain and fertility issues. Palvin stressed the importance of early diagnosis and treatment to prevent long-term complications.
Endometriosis is an extremely common yet underdiagnosed condition, often normalized as "just bad periods." Sadly, a lack of awareness among sufferers and health care professionals has resulted in the normalization of these symptoms, to the degree that many women don't get diagnosed for years. As a result, more and more celebrities are using their platforms to raise awareness about this highly prevalent but sadly neglected condition.
