Shania Twain has shared that she used to engage in "very unhealthy things" in pursuit of her ideal weight—but she says that menopause has been “very good” for her self-image.

The 60-year-old country music legend discussed her changing attitude toward her physical appearance in a recent interview with The Times, published on June 13. Throughout the interview, Twain recounted a difficult period in 2019 while performing in Las Vegas when she struggled to look at her reflection. "I stopped looking at myself in the mirror. I hated my body," she said.

She then elaborated on how her body transformed with age, and how she felt her old fitness routines were ineffective. "So all of a sudden I'm bloating, and I'm definitely not in control. I can't just lose five pounds," she recalled.

According to Twain, her approach to losing weight crossed over into dangerous territory. "I was doing very unhealthy things," she added. "And I was working my body more than I was feeding it to keep up with the strain." That ultimately took a serious toll on her health and worsened an existing onstage injury.

Her perspective today, however, is different. "Now I'm like, bring on the mirrors, I'm going to look at myself all day long!" she told the outlet with a laugh. According to Twain, menopause played a crucial role in her transformation. "Menopause has been very good for me because I've learned that some things you cannot control," she explained.

Menopause is an important stage of womanhood. While many famous women opt for hormone replacement therapy during this stage of their lives, avoiding menopause altogether is not something money can buy (just yet). It is safe to say there are some symptoms most women can relate to, but going through menopause also affects each woman in unique ways.
