Actress Sarah Jessica Parker met Queen Camilla at a Clarence House reception on November 11 for the newly announced Children’s Booker Prize, set to launch in 2026. There as a guest judge for the prestigious Booker Prize (awarded since 1969), Parker bowed and curtsied before the Queen in a show of respect at the London literary event.

 

While bowing or curtsying before a monarch is optional for Americans, there’s much more to meeting a member of the British royal family than simply performing a curtsy. In fact, the only royals one is formally expected to greet in this way are the King and Queen. But how about other details of royal protocol—do they still apply to celebrities?
