Kylie Kelce is apologizing to Catharine, Princess of Wales after making a royal etiquette mistake.

The podcaster and wife of former NFL star Jason Kelce addressed the controversy during an episode of her show 'Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce,' on October 1.

Kelce recently invited the Princess of Wales to appear on her podcast after Catherine was seen playing shinty—a sport similar to field hockey—during a visit to Scotland last month. Kelce, who played field hockey at Cabrini University, said she and the royal might have a few things in common.

“Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, if you ever wanted to come on and chitchat about some field hockey and maybe kids, I don’t know—we’ve got a couple things in common,” Kelce said during the September episode.

However, Kelce later learned that referring to Catherine as “Princess Kate” may be viewed as disrespectful. Catherine Elizabeth Middleton became part of the royal family after marrying Prince William in 2011 and is now formally known as Catharine, Princess of Wales after King Charles’ ascension to the throne (she was previously known as the Duchess of Cambridge).

Now Kelce is acknowledging the mistake. “I love learning, so I was unaware that calling Princess Catherine ‘Princess Kate’ was offensive,” she said. “Now I know, and I’ll proceed accordingly. I apologize for the mistake. I want to refer to people in the way they feel most respected.” She added, “Princess Catherine, or the Princess of Wales, I apologize. I’ll get that sorted immediately starting now.”

Indeed, there's more to meeting a member of the British royal family than just showing up and doing a curtsy. In fact, the only royal you're obliged to greet like this is the King and the Queen. But how about other details of royal protocol, do they still apply to celebrities? And what are they, really? Click on to find out.
