Andra Day opens up about struggle with porn and sex addiction
©
Getty Images

Oscar-nominated actress Andra Day recently opened up to InStyle about the struggles she faced while filming 'The United States vs. Billie Holiday,' namely her addiction to porn and sex.
The actress explained that in portraying the late jazz singer, she decided not to incorporate sexuality because of her own experiences. "I didn't want any element of sexualization," Day said. "I had come out of something in my own life—dealing with porn addiction, sex addiction. I'm being very, very candid with you because I'm not the only one. But I knew I wanted all of that very much gone."
She added that the role helped her overcome her addiction by remaining true to character. "I feel now, after playing Billie, that I'm honoring her, and the strength that is femininity," she explained. "I'm definitely in a healthier place to enjoy that because I'm outside of the addiction, if you will. So, yeah, it's been really fun, because it's been very new for me."
Despite how popular watching pornography is, it's a very touchy subject for most people. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the adult entertainment industry, and it will, presumably, not depart from being a hush subject for quite some time. These celebrities, however, all have something to say about the industry or their own watching habits.
