Sting has again explained why he does not plan to leave his fortune to his six children, saying he wants them to make their own way in life. In a new interview on ‘CBS News Sunday Morning’ on May 5, the singer said telling children they do not have to work is “a form of abuse that I hope I’m never guilty of.”
The 74-year-old said his children have been “blessed with this extraordinary work ethic” and that encouraging them to work is not cruel, but a sign of trust. Sting first shared a similar view in 2014, when he said he did not want to leave his children trust funds that could become “albatrosses round their necks.”
While Sting has said he would help his children if they were in trouble, he has made it clear that they should not expect a handout. His comments add him to the list of famous figures who believe inherited wealth is not always the greatest gift.
