The 18-year-old Dutch student Oliver Daemen was the youngest, and 82-year-old Wally Funk was the oldest. Funk was an aviation pioneer who was rejected by NASA in the 1960s because their program only allowed men. Her lifelong dream was finally fulfilled in 2021.

Celebs who plan to travel to space
Pete Davidson to blast off on Blue Origin's March 23 flight
©
Getty Images

Sending humans to space once seemed like a sci-fi fantasy, but for years now there have been various spacecraft developments with increasingly nearer dates of departure aiming to send tourists to space. The appeal is obvious: you not only get to see Earth from a rare distance, but you also get to glimpse the vastness of the galaxy and experience the scientifically beneficial effects of being awestruck.
But, of course, this kind of innovative tourism costs a lot of money, and the first batch of people to go will have lots of cash to blow. It makes sense that many well-known celebrities have bought themselves a seat well in advance. However, a lucky few have already been invited to take part in test flights for free, drumming up excitement and exposure for these billion-dollar businesses.
Pete Davidson is everywhere these days, but we didn't expect to see him in space! Nonetheless, the ubiquitous 'SNL' comedian is officially part of the New Shepard crew—for only its fourth human flight ever—on the upcoming March 23 flight, Blue Origin confirmed on March 14. Davidson has been interested in going to space for a long time and had a double-date with his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, and Bezos and his girlfriend, Lauren Sánchez. He'll be joined by Marty Allen, Marc and Sharon Hagle, Jim Kitchen and Dr. George Nield.
Click through the gallery to see which other famous faces have reserved themselves a seat for the trip of a lifetime.
