Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that may be diagnosed if someone experiences persistent anxiety and post-traumatic stress symptoms after a traumatic event. It is commonly associated with soldiers returning from war, but it can affect anyone who experiences trauma in their life. And it can happen to any of us, celebrities included.
Pete Davidson has been open about his struggles with mental illness and addiction for many years. The young comedian lost his father when he was seven years old, a traumatic incident he connects his mental health issues. His dad was a firefighter killed in the line of duty during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York. While he has struggled with depression throughout his life, his most recent diagnoses have been for PTSD and borderline personality disorder. On June 29, 2023, sources told news outlets that Davidson had checked into a rehab facility to receive psychiatric treatment for these disorders. He is only expected to spend a short time there.
The 29-year-old has certainly been under stress in recent weeks, which may have exacerbated his condition. He was charged with reckless driving in relation to a March 4 incident in which he crashed his car into a Beverly Hills home. No one was injured in the accident. Davidson is due to be arraigned on July 27.
