Sam Neill once revealed how he reconnected with his son Andrew 25 years after placing him up for adoption, describing his family as “more extended than most.”
The actor explained he was in his early twenties when the decision was made, explaining that both he and his child were very young at the time. Neill died on June 13, at the age of 78.
“I didn’t see him for 25 years and then we went looking for each other,” Neill told The Times in 2014, noting their reunion was far from dramatic. “No one sobs in anyone’s arms; it’s much more grown-up,” he added, describing the meeting as honest rather than sentimental.
Best known for his role in the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise, Neill largely kept his private life out of the spotlight, though he later reflected on family as one of life’s greatest joys. He had three other children and often spoke about the importance of connection, particularly later in life.
Indeed, an unwanted pregnancy can really be problematic for the parents and child. Sometimes couples are just way too young to be raising a kid, other times they simply have no financial means to support them. Whatever the reasons, sometimes the best option is to place the child up for adoption.
