Lewis Capaldi returned to the stage for Glastonbury after taking a break to "rest and recover," but as he's previously shared, his Tourette's continues to get in his way. That was no problem for fans, however, as when Capaldi struggled against involuntary movements to finish his hit song 'Someone You Loved,' the crowd stepped in and sang it for him. It was an emotional moment for Capaldi, who looked at the audience in awe and thanked them earnestly for their help.

Capaldi first opened up about his Tourette's in September 2022, and in April 2023 he told The Times, "My tic is getting quite bad on stage now,” adding that, “It’s only making music that does this to me. Otherwise I can be fine for months at a time. So it’s a weird situation. Right now, the trade-off is worth it." The 26-year-old did say after his Glastonbury set that he may not return to the stage this year, though he intends to. “But if it gets to a point where I’m doing irreparable damage to myself, I’ll quit,” Capaldi told The Times. “I hate hyperbole, but it is a very real possibility that I will have to pack music in.”

Tourette's syndrome, a condition that has very likely existed for as long as humans have but was only officially discovered in the 19th century, remains to this day shrouded in mystery. The condition, closely associated with involuntary tics and commonly accompanied by an obsessive-compulsive disorder, was once thought to be extremely rare. More recent studies, however, estimate that around 1% of the world's population lives with Tourette's syndrome, if not more. Tourette's can affect everyone differently, and while the condition is still being studied, many famous figures and celebrities with Tourette's have stepped up to break the stigma and share their experiences of living with tics.
