Acting, singing and dancing: the actors who can do it all
Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell show off their skills in new holiday musical 'Spirited'
In the old days of Hollywood, you had to be a triple threat to have any chance of making it. Many of the hit films that were made during the Golden Age of Hollywood had singing and dancing numbers, with legends like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers showing us how it's done. These days Broadway stars are the only ones who really need to be able to act, sing, and dance at the same time. That being said, there are a few actors who have all of these impressive skills and more.
Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell are seasoned actors who are best known for their comedic timing, but their most recent project proves that they have a lot more to offer! Their holiday movie 'Spirited' is a musical reimagining of the Charles Dickens classic, 'A Christmas Carol.' They were both forced to dust off their dancing shoes and push their voices to the limit for their roles. “The most challenging part of singing and dancing is you work on them separately and you kind of forget that you have to do them simultaneously,” Ferrell told The Hollywood Reporter. Reynolds shared that he's not a “natural singer or dancer,” but that he “got as close to a black belt in adequate as I could to get through it.”
Despite the challenges, both actors described it as one of the most fun and joyful productions they've ever worked on. Choreographer Chloe Arnold confirmed that the pair "were never too tired. They were always joyous, great, loving, sharing; it was an absolute dream come true." The movie is already available to stream on Apple TV+.
