During an appearance on 'The Bossticks' podcast on June 15, Emma Heming Willis clarified a significant "misconception" regarding her husband Bruce Willis' diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia, a neurological condition affecting the frontal and temporal lobes.

The former model explained that this condition actually has "three different variants." She elaborated on how each variant impacts the brain differently, saying, "The one that Bruce has affects language, but there's another variant that will affect behavior and another one that could affect movement."

When the conversation turned to whether Bruce Willis' particular variant affects his memory, Emma provided a clear answer: "No, it doesn't." She then explained, "That's a different part of the brain. So when people say, 'Oh, you know, does he remember who you are?' Well, he does because he doesn't have Alzheimer's; he has FTD." Emma reinforced her point by saying, "I think that's a very common misconception that, when you think of dementia, we think of memory loss."

Emma emphasized that her 71-year-old husband maintains his ability to recognize the people closest to him, namely his five daughters.

Bruce Willis’ family first announced in 2022 that he was stepping away from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that affects communication. They later revealed in 2023 he had frontotemporal dementia.

Many celebrities have been diagnosed with some form of dementia later in life, with some developing the condition at much younger ages, having their golden years taken from them.
