In an interview on August 6, former Superman actor Dean Cain announced his plans to become an agent for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Cain starred in the hit series ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ alongside Teri Hatcher in the ‘90s. He also released a video, urging others to consider joining the agency.
ICE’s primary focus is enforcing immigration and customs laws and protecting national security interests. Lately, ICE has been ramping up its deportation efforts across the United States in light of the Trump administration’s controversial new immigration policies, leading to mass protests. In late July, the agency launched a new recruitment initiative, aiming to hire 10,000 new personnel, effectively doubling its current workforce.
While it’s certainly uncommon for a Hollywood star to pursue a career as an ICE agent, this isn’t the first time a public figure has left the entertainment industry to pursue a different career.
