On May 4, Britney Spears took a plea deal in her DUI case and was sentenced by Ventura County Commissioner Matthew Nemerson to 12 months of summary probation and one day in jail, credited as time served.

The singer, who was not in court, was fined US$571 (€530) and must complete a three-month DUI program totaling 30 hours of classes. Additionally, Spears must attend weekly therapy sessions with a psychologist and meet with a psychiatrist twice a month. Her vehicle may also be searched for drugs and alcohol.

Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said Spears pleaded through her lawyer, accepting early responsibility, and will continue mental health and substance abuse treatment.

The singer was taken into custody in Ventura, California, on March 4 and released the following day. At the time, her representative described the incident as “completely inexcusable,” adding that Spears would take responsibility and comply with the law.
