Nearly nine months after his tragic death, Rob Reiner won his third Emmy on September 6 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in 'The Bear.' The highly respected Hollywood star received a lengthy standing ovation from his friends and peers in the audience.

Reiner's win came 48 years after his last Emmy, which was for his performance as Michael ‘Meathead’ Stivic in the beloved sitcom 'All in the Family.' This long stretch between wins broke the previously held record for longest gap between Emmys, which was actually held by his father, Carl Reiner. Carl won an Emmy in the same category in 1995 for an appearance in 'Mad About You,' 37 years after his second win for 'Caesar’s Hour' in 1958.

The character Reiner played in 'The Bear,' a benevolent business consultant, was a hit at the time he appeared on the show in the summer of 2025, sparking excitement that he might return for the fifth season. Unfortunately, his life was cut short on December 14, 2025.

Reiner was found dead alongside his wife of nearly four decades, Michele Singer Reiner, by the couple’s daughter, Romy. Their son Nick was arrested hours later and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

But Reiner's legacy endures as a reminder that great storytelling can outlive its maker. His films, such as 'Stand by Me' (1986), 'The Princess Bride' (1987), 'When Harry Met Sally' (1989), and 'A Few Good Men' (1992), defined eras of American cinema with wit, warmth, and honesty.
