As a popular recording artist and accomplished dancer and comedian, Sammy Davis Jr.

became affectionately known as "Mr. Entertainment." His membership in the legendary Rat Pack along with the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin heightened his profile throughout the 1960s. But it was also during this period that the performer became actively engaged in the civil rights movement. He is remembered as one of the most successful African-American celebrities of his generation, and for his work promoting social issues.
