Why you should always wash new clothes
The answer might scare you
Most people know that it is better to wash new clothes, but this step is often skipped. The clothes usually look pretty clean, but as we know, looks can be deceiving.
The microbiological professor Philip Tierno of New York University warns against directly wearing new clothes, according to Health and Fitness Cheat Sheet. We assume that clothes are only suitable for a few people, but according to the professor, each article is often tried on by a dozen or more people.
In his research, Tierno found new garments with staphylococci, fecal matter, and the bacteria that causes strep throat. The risk of infection is small, but it remains a risk, especially if you have wounds on your skin. Even if the clothes have never been worn, there are often chemicals that are bad for your skin.
Even just trying on clothes isn't safe, as you can collect bacteria on your body. It's a good idea to wash your hands well before they come in to contact with your face.
