Around the world, the way countries approach mental health can look very different. Not every nationality is as likely to prescribe or be willing to take antidepressants as others.
Prescription rates can be shaped by access to healthcare, cultural attitudes, prescribing habits, and the general mental health of the population.
To work out which countries' populations are taking the most antidepressants, the approximate number of standard daily doses consumed each day for every 100 people has been ranked by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The US is included using comparable government prescription data.
