Weight loss

A recent study from Jefferies, an American multinational independent investment bank and financial services company, finds weight-loss drugs could lighten planes, reduce fuel use, and save airlines money.

Published on January 19, the report found that the US’ biggest airlines—American, Delta, Southwest, and United—could save a total of US$580 million a year on fuel as passengers use GLP-1 weight-loss drugs.

If the weight of passengers were to decline by just 10%, as much as 1.5% in fuel costs could be saved, which, in turn, would boost earnings per share by 4%, according to the report.

But while most of us are aware of the dangers of being overweight and the benefits of shedding those extra pounds, there are some side effects that should also be considered when the process is too fast and the transformation is too drastic.
