Environmental journalist Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former president John F. Kennedy, has passed away at the age of 35. Schlossberg had shared her terminal cancer diagnosis in an essay for The New Yorker published a month earlier, revealing that the illness was first discovered shortly after the birth of her daughter in 2024. Schlossberg was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and underwent grueling treatment, but developed a rare mutation that made the disease terminal.
“Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning,” her family shared in a statement on December 30. Schlossberg is survived by her husband, George Moran, and their two children, aged three and one.
Sadly, the death of a seemingly healthy 35-year-old mother isn't as rare an occurrence as it should be. A recent study published in the journal BMJ Oncology has identified an alarming global trend in cancer cases in young people. And the truly worrying aspect about this study is that experts have yet to discover a definitive reason why.
