The Food Safety and Inspection Service announced on January 16 that about 13,720 pounds (around 6,220 kg) of ready-to-eat grilled chicken breast fillets produced by Suzanna’s Kitchen were recalled after a third-party lab found potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected products are 10-pound (about 4.54-kg) cases containing two five-pound (about 2,27 kg each) bags with the lot code 60104 P1382 287 5 J14 and establishment number P-1382. They were shipped to food service centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Ohio. No illnesses have been reported.
Listeria infection, also known as listeriosis, is caused by the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. While eating food contaminated with Listeria isn't life-threatening for most healthy people, it can cause serious illness, especially for pregnant individuals and those with weakened immune systems. According to the CDC, Listeria infection is the third leading cause of death from foodborne illness in the US, killing about 260 people a year.
